We’re Turning One!

We are celebrating our one year blog birthday this week! We’ve collected one year’s worth of new releases, events around Edmonton, book launches, catalogues, open access resources, giveaways and other fun publishing news in these virtual pages. Today, we are sharing our favourite posts from the past twelve months below and giving you a sneak peek at some upcoming posts.

FROM COAST TO COAST

Our first post ever celebrated Heritage Days which took place this past weekend. We love this festival (especially the food!) and we took a little trip across Canada to see the locations of some of our books. Includes an interactive map!

A BOOK DESIGNER’S TOOLBOX: FREE FONTS

For University Press Week, we participated in the blog tour. Our in-house book designer shared his favourite open-source fonts. This post is a great resource for designers or anyone interested in book design. #ReadUP!

EDMONTON’S VIBRANT SOCIAL ECONOMY

To announce the release of Scaling Up, we collected some of Edmonton’s best social economy programs. Check out the list to find car sharing companies, farmer’s markets, heritage building conservation, and affordable housing in Edmonton.

OUR LIVES: NATIONAL LIFE WRITING MONTH

November is National Life Writing Month and we shared our favourite memoirs from our backlist. Read about the Holocaust, Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, Canada during the depression, and the life of a Cree woman in Canada.

IN THE NEWS: A YEAR IN REVIEW

Our New Year’s resolution was to be more informed about our world so we went more in depth than just reading news articles. We rounded up a few books that really dig into current events. From oil to refugees and from climate change to the TRC, these books will provide you with a better understanding of the issues facing our world.

CELEBRATING NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY

We celebrated National Aboriginal day by sharing a sneak peek at our latest publication. The book, Living on the Land, looks at the marginalization of Indigenous women’s knowledge. It is now available on our website as a free PDF and you can also read an excerpt on rabble!

Stay tuned for a series of blog posts on the much anticipated title, Without Apology: Writings on Abortion in Canada. Also coming up in the next few months is a look at Edmonton’s Fringe Festival, Open Access week, University Press week, and a few more new releases.

Thank you for reading our blog. We’re happy you’re here! Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates and on Instagram for some fun #bookstagrams.
