Athabasca University Press is Canada’s first open access scholarly press. Founded in 2007 with the principal aim of reducing barriers to knowledge and increasing access to scholarship, AU Press is committed to bringing the work of emerging and established scholars to the public. With both an open access journal and monograph program, we make a substantial contribution to a growing body of academic and literary work that is made available to a global readership at no cost to the reader.
As we embrace new publishing venues and the opportunities they present, we maintain a rigorous process of peer review and a high editorial and production standard for all of our output. We support each project with careful and creative marketing that assures authors of our intention to reach the widest readership possible.
Accessible Books
In 2021, AU Press joined a handful of organizations worldwide as a globally certified producer of accessible publications. The Press achieved its certification through Benetech, a non-profit organization that creates software for social good and that offers the only third-party electronic publishing certification program. The certification recognizes publishers who consistently produce ebook files that meet or exceed accessibility standards. Open access is a guiding principle at AU Press and making our books available to those with perceptual (print) disabilities is another way for us to remove barriers to knowledge and serve a wider community of readers.
