It’s hard to believe that we have been writing this blog for two years and that we have been publishing books for ten years! Today we are celebrating these milestones with a look back at the year in blog posts.
Our first podcast episode, “Open Book Bites: An interview with Shannon Stettner,” aired in November. We spoke to Shannon Stettner, editor of Without Apology: Writings on Abortion in Canada, about some of the recent reproductive justice issues in Canada. This book has become especially timely in light of the recent Atwood-inspired protests around the world and, closer to home, the Alberta government’s announcement that the government would provide universal coverage for the abortion drug Mifegymiso.

Need some inspiration? “The Arbitrary Colourist: Vincent van Gogh’s Palette” mixes excerpts about colour from Van Gogh’s beautifully written letters with Patrick Grant’s observations in Reading Vincent van Gogh. Grant’s goal is to demonstrate that Van Gogh’s writing is as colourful as his palette and his literary work as worthy of study as his paintings. Sidenote: Loving Vincent, a painted film, is set to be released in October!
Our very first catalogue came out ten years ago and so when our fall catalogue arrived, we just had to compare the two! We found similarities in a number of the books. We can’t wait for these titles to be released in the next few months!
We celebrated International Women’s Day by sharing excerpts from books written by women about women. These excerpts highlighted learning, telling the truth, the complexities of motherhood, women leaders, and the importance of publishing the legacy of women.

Treaty 6 Recognition Day took place on August 18 in Edmonton this year. To mark the day, our summer intern wrote about the history of Treaty 6 and shared a few ideas on how you can recognize treaty in your everyday life.
